Ruggedised PDA Maintenance
First time users * LEMO connectors are disconnected by pulling back on Knurled shoulder only.
Never try to twist the connector to disengage as it is possible to damage the the pins. You will notice that there is a keyway on male (plug) and slot on socket for alignment. These are high precision connectors and they will not disengage any other way.
Screen Membrane Maintenance.
To TEST- Run Stylus across screen surface. If you feel friction do screen maintenance !
The tough silicon polymer screen membrane is fused to the 2007S top to completely waterproof the PDA and will last for up to 5 years with the simple maintenance routine. Airborne dust settling on the membrane can be caught under the stylus tip when data is being entered and after time cause minute scratches . The stylus tip can dig into the membrane unless the screen surface has been oiled. This is not covered under warranty
A 2.5 ml vial of special conditioning oil is provided with the installation kit. One drop of oil will provide protection and lubricity for up to 1 month of continuos use before needing re-application. The frequency of reconditioning will depend on the operating Environment of the 2007S. On dusty mine sites expect to recondition more often than urban use.
How to tell when conditioning is required.
Drag stylus over the screen and if any slight friction or dragging is felt do maintenance.
Items Required.
1. Small bottle of methylated Spirits or wood alcohol.
2. Cotton balls or clean soft rag.
3. Vial of 2007S conditioning oil supplied with kit.
Procedure.
1. Damp soft clean cloth or cotton balls in methylated spirits and GENTLY wipe away the Pespiration/dirt surface film build up. Clean the tip of the stylus at the same time.
2. Allow to dry.
3. Drip 1 to 2 drops MAXIMUM of conditioning oil from vial on center of screen.
4. With finger wipe the oil over entire 2007S screen face only.
5. With a clean cloth wipe screen gently until all traces of oil is removed from screen and you appear to be polishing it. Do not use any pressure, just lightly polish until screen appears dry. Failure to do this stage will leave an oil film and trap dust.
The unit is now ready for service and can be tested by moving stylus over the screen
The stylus should GLIDE over screen without grabbing.
Windows Pocket PC2003 (CE.4/5) lock up.
Symptom.
The screen locks up and won't accept stylus commands and the 2007S can't be turned off.
Cause.
(a) - RAM is nearly full due to large data and raster maps. Use SD flash card to store your programs and data
(b) - Other programs running in the background. It is not uncommon to have up to 5 tasks open when trying to be come familiar with CE Operating system and randomly tapping the tasks buttons. Pocket PC does not close these tasks when you exit. Go to Start-Settings-System-Memory(icon) - Running Programs and stop ALL but the required task. Tap Ok and exit setting screen. Load your desired program if you have not already done so.
Remedy. Reset the 2007S.
*As from units shipped 1-09-06, push button 4 (The bottom RHS button.)
*Earlier units shipped before 1-09-06 require the 2007S top to be partially removed. There is a factory upgrade modification that uses Button 4 to do reset.
Tools required.-Tea /coffee spoon or blunt edge of car key
1. Turn 2007S face down in palm of both hands. Using both thumbs evenly push downward on the the edge of the top where the case angles at 45 degrees. (on single port this is where connector is located on RHS). This will disengage the top from the PosiSeal (tm) channel and allow access to iPAQ reset button. You Do NOT need to take the cover off completely, just enough to use a straightened paper clip to activate the reset button.
Refitting 2007S cover
2. Turn the 2007S with screen facing up Use ONLY a teaspoon handle, or a blunt edge of a car key to avoid scuffing the seal , engage the teaspoon handle under the 2007S top sealing lip as you would a bicycle tire (tyre) and work the top lip into the case bottom channel until until it is snug.
3. Completely recheck all of 2007S top edge to ensure the top is fully depressed into sealing channel so that it will be waterproof.
4. All your saved files should be intact except your last open file.
Should the screen membrane become scarred and scratched due to lack of maintenance it can be replaced with a new top by following the same 2007S top removal procedure as above. The unit is ready to use.

3. New method of sealing the screen membrane allows for membrane to be taunt giving better visibility.
